About Kathryn E DeSear

Kate DeSear, Pharm.D., BCIDP, FIDSA, is an associate professor in the Department of Pharmacy Education and Practice in the University of Florida College of Pharmacy. She maintains a practice site as a clinical specialist in infectious diseases at UF Health Shands Hospital, an 1,162 bed academic medical center, and co-leads the antimicrobial stewardship program. She serves as the residency program director of the Infectious Diseases PGY-2 residency.

DeSear received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Florida. She completed her pharmacy practice residency at Bay Pines Veterans Affairs Hospital and a specialty residency in infectious diseases at the UF Health Shands Hospital. Her areas of interest include antimicrobial stewardship, novel stewardship measures relating antimicrobial use to clinical and process outcomes, and gram negative resistance.

She is an active member of IDSA, serving previously on the Recognitions and Awards Committee; and an active member of the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists, serving in many leadership roles including past treasurer of the society.
