About Marco Bortolato
Marco Bortolato joined the UF College of Pharmacy in November 2024 as a professor of pharmacodynamics. He previously served eight years at the University of Utah, four years at the University of Kansas and seven years at the University of Southern California. Bortolato is a member of several professional organizations, including the International Society for Psychoneuroendocrinology, the International Behavioral and Neural Genetics Society, and the International Society for Behavioral Neuroscience. A native of Italy, he earned his B.S., M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Cagliarai.
From the beginning of Bortolato’s career as a neurologist, as well as an experimental and clinical pharmacologist, his research has focused on translational studies for the understanding of the pathophysiology of tic disorders, or TDs, and other neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism-spectrum disorder and disruptive behavior disorders. The key focus of his research has consistently been on the generation of animal models of these conditions, with the goal of developing novel therapies. His expertise encompasses behavioral and neurochemical analyses to study the pathophysiology of neurodevelopmental disorders using animal models. In addition, he has performed clinical studies for the validation of novel therapies for these disorders.
