UF College of Pharmacy E-Newsletter

Dear Pharmacy family… our “Pharmily,”

Here at the college, we are getting ready for fall semester with a new class of students eager to begin their paths to becoming pharmacists. Fall also means we are looking forward to Gator football and our Pharmacy Reunion BBQ! Hopefully, you have all received our postcard to "save the date" for our October 17-18 Alumni Reunion. Be sure to reserve your hotel and register soon. The registration deadline is September 25.

August marks the beginning of Dean Johnson's second year of leading our college. You may recall, one of her top priorities was to form a Curricular Revision Task Force. Task force members, charged with proposing a new Pharm.D. curriculum, engaged with many others as they evaluated and planned a revised curriculum model that has been endorsed by our faculty and students. We have an exciting update with news released just this week, as well as other news and events to share with you.

Go Pharmacy Gators - see you this fall!

Farewell to Jennifer Williams, Pharm.D.

The Department of Pharmacotherapy and Translational Research hosted a farewell reception June 25 to honor Dr. Jennifer Williams for 12 years of exemplary service as the founding director and assistant dean of the UF College of Pharmacy’s St. Petersburg campus. Dean Johnson and Dr. McKenzie, associate dean of student affairs, recognized Dr. Williams for her dedication to the college and to her students. Dr. Reginald Frye, department chair, presented her with a few gifts from the college to remember her years at UF as a pharmacy student and as a member of the faculty. This fall, she will begin serving as the associate dean of student affairs at the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy Memphis campus. Even though Dr. Williams is going to UT, she will remain a loyal Gator Pharmacy Alumna, promising to always wear the "proper" orange!

White Coat Project: Give the Gift of Professionalism

Please consider making a gift of $35 to purchase a white coat for a pharmacy student. Each year, the UF College of Pharmacy holds a White Coat Ceremony for our rising second-year Pharm.D. students and their families. Our coating day is symbolic of their progression through the rigorous academic and professional program at the completion of their first year.

Each student will receive a card indicating who supported them through the purchase of their white coat.  As a supporter, we will extend to you an invitation to attend the March 14, 2015 coating ceremony.

If you generously purchase 10 or more white coats, you will be invited and encouraged to personally join our students & faculty on stage and participate in the coating!

4PD Giving Challenge

The Class of 2014 has rallied together and generously pledged to provide support for the College of Pharmacy over the next five years. Across all four campuses, a total of $65,850 was pledged from our senior pharmacy students who graduated in May. The money raised from the challenge will be used to support our student's professional development, ceremonial events and individual campus needs. There were a total of nine class representatives that lead their classmates to participate in the challenge. They had the honor of presenting Dean Julie Johnson with a check at Commencement on May 5.

FPA Gator Reception

On July 11, more than 100 alumni and friends of the college joined Dean Johnson, faculty and students for our Gator Reception held in conjunction with the annual Florida Pharmacy Association meeting. Dean Johnson was able to briefly share college updates and news, including the college’s successful efforts to recruit nationally renowned faculty members as well as the details of our new White Coat initiative (see article above). Our alumni and friends showed their true commitment to UF Pharmacy students by purchasing more than 80 white coats during the weekend!
