Fourth-year University of Florida College of Pharmacy student Genisse Gonzalez has been named to the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, or ASHP, Pharmacy Student Forum Executive Committee. The Gainesville student will advocate for student pharmacists across the country and help shape resources, programming and initiatives that support their success. She called this national appointment a “true honor.”
“ASHP has played a significant role in my professional growth since my first year of pharmacy school, so being appointed to a national leadership position within the organization is incredibly meaningful,” Gonzalez said. “It’s a reflection of the mentorship, support and leadership opportunities I have received throughout my pharmacy education. I am grateful for the chance to give back to an organization that has helped me develop as both a student and future pharmacist.”
Comprised of five students appointed by the ASHP president, the executive committee advises the ASHP Board of Directors and staff on the needs and interests of student pharmacists across the country and serves as liaisons to pharmacy schools nationwide, strengthening activities and programming on each campus. In this role, Gonzalez will serve as the liaison for the Advancement of Professional Practice Advisory Group, which develops resources educating student pharmacists about practice advancement, advocacy, well-being and emerging opportunities within healthcare.
Gonzalez, whose professional interests include ambulatory care, pharmacy leadership, medication safety and the advancement of pharmacy practice, said this role lends her the opportunity to create impactful resources that tomorrow’s pharmacists can apply to their professional development today.
“I hope to amplify student voices, promote opportunities for engagement within ASHP and support initiatives that advance pharmacy practice. I am particularly passionate about helping students recognize the many ways pharmacists contribute to patient care and encouraging them to pursue leadership opportunities early in their careers,” she said. “Overall, I aim to help foster a sense of community, professional growth and advocacy for the profession.”
