Andrew Barnes, a financial professional with more than 20 years of experience in Florida’s education system, has been named director of finance at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy, effective Oct. 22. He most recently served as vice president for administrative affairs and chief financial officer at Santa Fe College in Gainesville.

Barnes has held several financial leadership roles at secondary and higher education institutions around the state. These include finance positions at the Madison County School District, North Florida College and the Florida Department of Education, in addition to Santa Fe College. At Santa Fe College, he managed an annual budget exceeding $160 million and led a team of 23 professionals across multiple departments. He served as a key member of the president’s executive cabinet and contributed to college-wide policy development and long-range goal setting.
“Andrew is an insightful and highly knowledgeable financial leader with extensive experience in secondary and higher education,” said Peter W. Swaan, Ph.D., M.Pharm., dean of the UF College of Pharmacy. “His approachable nature and collaborative style complement the culture of the UF College of Pharmacy.”
As director of finance, Barnes will provide leadership in all aspects of the UF College of Pharmacy’s financial operations. His responsibilities will include developing budgets, forecasting needs and delivering accurate reporting and analysis. He will advise college leaders on aligning resources with strategic priorities, manage the finance team, promote fiscal accountability and maintain compliance with governing policies and standards. Barnes earned a master’s degree in accounting from Liberty University in 2015 and a bachelor’s degree in advertising from UF in 1997.
