Stephan Schmidt, Ph.D., B.Pharm., F.C.P., has been named the recipient of the 2025 ISoP Leadership Award by the International Society of Pharmacometrics.

The award, which honors individuals who have demonstrated innovative science and outstanding leadership in the field of pharmacometrics, was presented at the American Conference on Pharmacometrics, Oct. 18, in Aurora, Colorado.
“I am extremely proud to receive the ISoP Leadership Award,” Schmidt said. “It is humbling that the ISoP recognizes the hard work of the University of Florida pharmacometrics team, which I have been fortunate to lead over the last few years.”
Schmidt is the Certara Endowed Professor in the University of Florida College of Pharmacy and directs the Center for Pharmacometrics and Systems Pharmacology. He has made significant contributions to pharmacometrics through mentorship, research and service to the community.
Since joining UF in 2012, Schmidt has trained 38 postdoctoral fellows, 25 international scholars, 18 Ph.D. students and four research assistant professors. He has taught pharmacometrics concepts and applications to more than 2,500 Pharm.D. students, and his mentees have received over 40 national and international student awards. Two years ago, he founded the Florida Winter School, a one-week training program that teaches physiologically based pharmacokinetic concepts to graduate students and early-career working professionals.
Beyond his contributions to teaching and mentorship, Schmidt has developed a globally respected research program in model-informed drug development, with an emphasis on drug interactions, women’s health and special populations. He has served as principal investigator or co-principal investigator on more than 70 grants and contracts and has secured more than $15 million in funding. His scholarly contributions include more than 180 peer-reviewed publications, 10 book chapters and two textbooks, including the 5th edition of Rowland and Tozer’s Clinical Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics, a leading textbook in quantitative clinical pharmacology.
Schmidt has served in leadership roles across several prominent pharmaceutical science organizations, including the International Pharmacy Association, the American College of Clinical Pharmacology and the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
A member of ISoP since 2013, he has supported the organization through various roles, most notably as a member of the Quantitative Systems Pharmacology Special Interest Group Steering Committee. Schmidt becomes the latest UF College of Pharmacy faculty member to win the ISoP Leadership Award, joining Lawrence Lesko (2015), Richard Lalonde (2014) and the late Hartmut Derendorf (2013).
