Barbara Santevecchi, Pharm.D., BCIDP, a clinical assistant professor in the University of Florida College of Pharmacy, has been honored as the 2025 Residency Preceptor of the Year by the Florida Society of Health-System Pharmacists, or FSHP. She accepted the award during the FSHP Annual Meeting held in Orlando on Aug. 8.

The award recognizes an individual who has consistently demonstrated enthusiasm for the profession as well as the mentoring and education of pharmacy residents. Santevecchi’s commitment to developing future pharmacists is evident in her role as a preceptor and mentor to PGY1 pharmacy residents and PGY2 infectious disease pharmacy residents at UF Health Shands Hospital.
Since 2019, Santevecchi has supervised nearly 40 pharmacy residents and currently precepts six to eight residents annually. Her contributions to the residency training experience include supervising infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship rotations, introducing unique experiences into clinical rotations (such as microbiology laboratory rounding), coordinating grand rounds and organizing resident poster presentations for the UF Health pharmacy department.
“With medicine constantly evolving, I hope residents take away from the experience an excitement for learning and confidence in sharing their knowledge with others,” Santevecchi said.
Reflecting on her own journey, Santevecchi expressed gratitude for the mentors who shaped her career and guided her toward this award. “I have been incredibly fortunate to learn from outstanding preceptors throughout my training and career, and I greatly appreciate the guidance and knowledge they have shared with me,” Santevecchi said. “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the colleagues who nominated me for this award, and I am truly grateful that my efforts are having a positive impact on the pharmacy residents I have the privilege to work with.”
