ASHP fellow designation is bestowed upon pharmacy professionals who demonstrate a high standard of excellence and a sustained commitment to health-system practice, as well as active involvement and leadership in ASHP. Childs-Kean will be honored on June 10 during a ceremony at the Pharmacy Futures 2025 conference in Charlotte, North Carolina. She said receiving ASHP fellow designation carries a personal significance.

“Fellowship in ASHP recognizes my efforts in pharmacy practice and education throughout the course of my career so far, in addition to my service to ASHP and its state affiliate, FSHP. Many fellows of ASHP are leaders in health-system pharmacy who I looked up to during my student and new practitioner years. To now be among their ranks is a humbling honor,” she said.

In addition to teaching future pharmacists, Childs-Kean practices with providers from the UF Health Division of Infectious Diseases and Global Medicine, where she focuses on infectious diseases pharmacotherapy and outpatient infectious disease care, particularly outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy. As she readies her students for their careers in pharmacy, she’s guided by the clinical experiences she’s amassed, which includes establishing a pair of clinical practice sites in Gainesville and Bay Pines, Florida.

“As an educator, I strive to bring real-world, authentic patient care challenges to my teaching, so that students can work on their clinical reasoning skills before they may encounter similar challenges during their clinical rotations and career,” she said. “I am constantly impressed by the quality of the work that our UF students do inside and outside the classroom. I feel very honored to get to teach the next generation of pharmacy leaders on a regular basis.”
