University of Florida College of Pharmacy graduate Brian Gilbert, Pharm.D., ’15, has been selected to UF’s 40 Gators Under 40 class of 2025. This award is bestowed upon those in the Gator Nation who are under the age of 40 and achieve remarkable professional success and demonstrate unwavering commitment to service.

“I was a proud member of the Jacksonville campus, and the professors and support staff there meant so much to me,” said Gilbert. “I’m forever grateful to them and what that campus did for me.”

Gilbert currently serves as the emergency medicine clinical pharmacy specialist at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. During his time in industry, he has worked as an innovator in advancing clinical pharmacy practice with a focus in developing and implementing TEG-based treatment algorithms. Notably, his approaches to managing coagulopathies in critically ill patients have been widely adopted and have improved patient outcomes while setting new standards in clinical care.

“A lot of it stems from the things I was taught at UF and the people I surrounded myself with and how to conduct myself,” Gilbert said. “Hopefully I’ve made my professors proud in the College of Pharmacy on what I’ve been able to accomplish so far within my career and personally.”

Along with his professional work, Gilbert holds a passion for serving as an educator and mentor. He carries experience in helping train and develop pharmacy residents and students while also serving in leadership roles in professional organizations, which include a current position as chair-elect of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy’s Emergency Medicine Practice and Research Network and a former role as president and director of education for the Kansas Council of Health-System Pharmacy.

“Mentorship is just so important because you’re giving back to your potential future colleagues and those who are going to shape the future,” Gilbert said. “You want to be able to have somebody that they can rely on to give them a greeting and good advice to navigate some of the more difficult challenges that occur throughout their careers.”

In his career, Gilbert has also been recognized with other awards such as the American College of Clinical Pharmacy Emergency Medicine PRN Outstanding New Clinical Practitioner and Mentor of the Year Awards, as well as the Preceptor of the Year Award.

“It’s nice to be recognized for the work that was built upon by the education I received at UF in the College of Pharmacy,” said Gilbert. “I’ve basically tried to take the things that were instilled in me at the College of Pharmacy and continue those habits, ways of functioning and motivations to do the best that I can for my patients.”

The UF Alumni Association will honor the 40 Gators Under 40 class at a ceremony on March 28, 2025.
