Kaitlin Alexander, Pharm.D., BCCCP, a clinical associate professor of pharmacy education and practice in the University of Florida College of Pharmacy, is the 2025 recipient of the Drs. Joseph and Rae Brown Award, bestowed by the Council of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, or SCCM.

Alexander received the award during the SCCM’s Critical Care Congress, held in Orlando February 23-25. The Drs. Joseph and Rae Brown Award is presented annually to a SCCM member who has demonstrated significant advancement in multiprofessional quality care for critically ill and injured patients at the regional or local level.
As president-elect of the Florida chapter of SCCM and its former secretary, Alexander has led the charge in increasing member engagement and communication, providing networking opportunities for multidisciplinary critical care professionals throughout the state, expanding the chapter’s philanthropic efforts, and reorganizing its committees with an eye for efficiency. She described receiving the Drs. Joseph and Rae Brown Award an incredible honor that motivates her to continue her work advancing critical care medicine across Florida.
“Pharmacists play a crucial role in critical care settings as vital members of the health care team. We optimize medication therapy and improve patient outcomes by ensuring that medications are used safely and effectively,” Alexander said. “What makes me most passionate about my role in critical care medicine is the continuous learning and collaboration with my team. Every day, I am challenged to stay up to date with the latest evidence-based practices to provide the best care for our patients. Witnessing the positive impact of our interventions on patients’ health and knowing that we are making a difference in their futures is incredibly rewarding.”
