UF graduate student Maryam Al Saeed among 2024 ACCP Futures Grants awardees

American College of Clinical Pharmacy, or ACCP, Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant to University of Florida College of Pharmacy graduate student Maryam Al Saeed, Pharm.D., M.S., to analyze real-world data in evaluating the performance of the ABCD-GENE score, which includes clinical factors and CYP2C19 genotype, in predicting how well clopidogrel prevents cardiovascular problems in stroke patients. The study will use data from the All of Us Research Program to investigate the score’s performance across various populations and seeks to discover new genetic factors influencing clopidogrel’s effectiveness.

Al Saeed, a third-year student in the Department of Pharmacotherapy and Translational Research, was one of two graduate students nationally to receive a 2024 ACCP Foundation Futures Grant. The awards support the development of research skills among students, trainees, and early-career ACCP members interested in clinical pharmacy research.

“It is an incredible honor to receive an ACCP Foundation Futures Grant, which reflects not only the importance of my research but also the invaluable support and guidance from my mentor, Larisa Cavallari,” Al Saeed said. “This recognition is a testament to her mentorship and encouragement, which have been instrumental in shaping my academic and research journey.”

Cavallari, Pharm.D., FCCP, BCPS, is the Debbie DeSantis Term Professor and interim chair of the Department of Pharmacotherapy and Translational Research in the UF College of Pharmacy.
