Graduate student Jean Malavé wins Presidential Abstract Award at PGRN Scientific Meeting

Jean Malavé, Pharm.D., a graduate student in the University of Florida College of Pharmacy’s Department of Pharmacotherapy and Translational Research, received a Presidential Abstract Award at the Pharmacogenomics Global Research Network Scientific Meeting in Columbus, Ohio, on Sept. 24.

Malavé’s award-winning abstract, titled “Impact of Phenoconversion on Risk for Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events in Clopidogrel-Treated Post-PCI Patients,” examined how combining certain antidepressants with clopidogrel, a medication prescribed to prevent blood clots after heart procedures, could raise the risk of heart complications.

“Our goal is to provide prescribers with the information necessary to make evidence-based decisions,” Malavé said about the study. “Receiving this award is a testament to the hard work of my lab partners and the mentorship of Dr. Cavallari, and I am deeply grateful for their support.”

Larisa Cavallari, Ph.D., the Debbie DeSantis Term Professor and interim chair of the Department of Pharmacotherapy and Translational Research, serves as Malavé’s faculty mentor.
