For the fifth consecutive year, the University of Florida College of Pharmacy’s Gainesville chapter has been recognized as the Florida Society of Health-System Pharmacists, or FSHP, Student Chapter of the Year. This achievement also marks the tenth year in a row that a chapter from UF’s College of Pharmacy has received the top honor.

FSHP Chapter of the Year 2024

The FSHP Chapter of the Year award is given to the student organization that has excelled in FSHP membership activities. The selection process involves a point system that assesses the chapter’s attendance at the annual meeting, leadership contributions, career development programs, and engagement in community service and fundraising initiatives.

The Gainesville chapter of the Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists, or SSHP, features 123 members. Throughout the year, the chapter organized dozens of professional, community outreach, and membership activities, including residency and internship forums, a clothing and shoe drive, a fundraiser to help patients needing life-saving blood cell transplants, and a membership trivia night. The activities offered many ways to engage in the organization and give back to the Gainesville community.

“This award demonstrates the hard work and dedication of our chapter officers, who identified ways to continue the chapter’s success and expand our impact on students and the profession of pharmacy,” said Kelly Bishop, president of the SSHP Gainesville chapter. “We have many eager student members who want to get involved in the organization, and we are fortunate to have several members who hold FSHP and American Society of Health-System Pharmacist leadership positions, which all contribute to our chapter winning this award.”

Lindsey Childs-Kean, Pharm.D., M.P.H., a clinical associate professor, and David DeRemer, Pharm.D., a clinical professor, serve as faculty advisors for the Gainesville SSHP chapter.
