Drs. Kaitlin Alexander and Carinda Feild receive Presidential Citation awards from the Society of Critical Care Medicine

The Society of Critical Care Medicine, or SCCM, recognized two University of Florida College of Pharmacy pharmacists with Presidential Citation awards during the 2024 Critical Care Congress in Phoenix. Kaitlin Alexander, Pharm.D., a clinical associate professor, and Carinda Feild, Pharm.D., a clinical associate professor and the associate director of experiential programs, were among a group of medical professionals honored for their extraordinary contributions of time, energy and resources to SCCM during the previous year.

Alexander serves as secretary of the Florida SCCM chapter and is a member of the SCCM Leadership, Empowerment and Development Committee. She also participates in the programming and education committees of the SCCM Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology Section.

Feild is the immediate past president of the Florida SCCM chapter and serves on the executive committee. At the national level, she serves in a leadership role on both the programming and education committees of the SCCM Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology Section.

More than a half dozen UF College of Pharmacy faculty contributed to presentations at the 2024 Critical Care Congress. John Allen, Pharm.D., an associate dean for accessibility belonging and community health and a clinical associate professor, led a talk on new and emerging therapies for the treatment of fungal infections in critically ill patients. In addition, Allen, Alexander and Feild teamed with Clinical Associate Professors Stacey Curtis, Pharm.D., and Bethany Shoulders, Pharm.D., Instructional Assistant Professors Janel Soucie, Pharm.D., and Lisa Vandervoort, Pharm.D., and Assistant Director of Experiential Programs Carolynn Komanski, Ph.D., to lead a research snapshot presentation on the prevalence of critical care advanced pharmacy practice experiences in medically underserved and high social vulnerability areas. Alexander and Shoulders also led a separate research snapshot presentation comparing the timing of blood clot prevention measures in traumatic brain injury patients admitted to the neurological intensive care unit versus the trauma intensive care unit.
