Dr. Anthony M. Casapao elected Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America

Anthony M. Casapao, Pharm.D., M.P.H., FIDSA, a clinical associate professor in the University of Florida College of Pharmacy, has been elected as a Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America — the nation’s leading infectious diseases professional society. Casapao is one of only 12 pharmacists worldwide who received the distinction this year.

Dr. Anthony CasapaoFellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, or FIDSA, is a designation that recognizes individuals who have achieved professional excellence and provided significant service to the profession. Applicants must meet the specified criteria in a clinical practice or an academic-type role. Candidates for the fellowship must also demonstrate sustained excellence in the profession.

Casapao has been an IDSA member for 13 years and has broadly served the society in many roles. He has presented original research at annual meetings and has been cited in randomized controlled trials, meta-analyses, and IDSA consensus guidelines.

“Earning Fellow status in the Infectious Diseases Society of America provides recognition from experts in the field that I have achieved professional excellence and rendered outstanding service to the profession and society,” Casapao said.

Applicants for the IDSA Fellowship must be nominated by their peers and meet specified criteria, including continuing identification with infectious diseases, national or regional recognition, and publication of their scholarly work. Nominees are reviewed and elected by the IDSA Board of Directors. Fellows of IDSA work in many different settings, including clinical practice, teaching, research, public health, and health care administration.
