Dr. Kathryn J. Smith receives AACP’s Emerging Teaching Scholar Award

The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, or AACP, selected Kathryn J. Smith, Pharm.D., BCACP, as a 2020 Emerging Teacher Scholar Award recipient. Smith will formally receive the award in July at AACP’s annual conference, Virtual Pharmacy Education 2020.

The award recognizes excellence in scholarly teaching and learning among academic pharmacy faculty. Smith seeks to use evidence-based teaching and learning techniques to promote pharmacy students’ professional development.

Throughout the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum, Smith teaches Principles of Patient-Centered Care and Personal and Professional Development. She is the director of the Leadership Professional Certificate for Pharm.D. students. Scholarly projects have included incorporating the Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process into an interprofessional capstone experience and development of a situational judgement test to assess professionalism.
