The University of Florida College of Pharmacy’s American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists, or APhA-ASP, chapter has been recognized for its efforts to raise immunization rates and increase awareness in its communities. UF won the Operation Immunization Award at the APhA-ASP Midyear Region 3 Meeting in Atlanta, Oct. 18-20. During the past year, student pharmacists at all three campuses hosted educational events, implemented a social media campaign during national immunization month, created a video about influenza vaccination and participated in many more activities. UF’s student chapter helped immunize more than 600 patients against the flu, more than 50 for pneumococcus and reached over 63,000 people on social media.
More than 40 UF pharmacy students attended the regional meeting, which also featured Eduardo Rizo, a third-year student at the Gainesville campus, being elected as a regional delegate. In the role, Rizo will be responsible for promoting advocacy and policy within the 28 schools and colleges of pharmacy.
