Derek Harris joined College of Pharmacy’s Orlando Campus Team in December 2013 as the Student Affairs Coordinator. He comes to the college with six years of prior experience in higher-education. In 2007, Derek was appointed as the Director of Student Advocacy at the University of Central Florida and worked with leaders and student leaders throughout the state of Florida on a number of issues, including mental health awareness, limiting tuition increases, text-book affordability, and Florida Bright-Future reform. In addition to his role as Director of Student Advocacy, Derek served on a number of task-force groups, advisory boards, and policy councils to the university. In 2008, Derek was hired at Valencia College in Orlando, Florida where he spent four years in management and student services, and another year in large scale university/college events. In addition, Derek also served on a number of work-groups and policy councils during his 5 years at Valencia College. Derek’s professional interests include mental health awareness, public policy, student development and organization advising, and academic advising. Derek graduated with a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Central Florida in 2008 and is currently working on an M.A. in Instructional Design and Educational Technology, expected graduation date in 2017. Derek also currently serves on the University of Florida’s LGBT Advisory Committee, the College of Pharmacy’s Professionalism Committee and Recruitment, Admissions and Retention Task-force.
