30th Annual Alumni Reunion BBQ brings together generations of Gator Pharmacists

Albert and Alberta with guestsGenerations of Gator Pharmacists returned to campus on Sept. 10 to celebrate the 30th Annual Alumni Reunion BBQ at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy. More than 300 faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the college enjoyed a sunshine-filled afternoon in the Pharmacy Courtyard reconnecting with classmates while enjoying a barbecue meal.

A host of activities entertained attendees, including an appearance by Albert and Alberta, the official mascots of UF. A photo booth, cornhole games and face painting for the kids were popular attractions. Current faculty and students in the college offered campus tours that showcased the recently renovated classroom for pharmacy students participating in the college’s new team-based learning curriculum.

Dean Julie Johnson, Pharm.D., shared recent events in the college, including its top 10 placement in the latest U.S. News and World Report rankings. She also highlighted the College of Pharmacy’s recent faculty additions which has pushed the college above the century mark for employed full-time faculty. She concluded her remarks by thanking alumni for their continued support in making UF one of the top pharmacy colleges in the nation.

Among those in attendance was James Y. Blake Jr., a graduate of the College of Pharmacy class of 1955. Blake’s father, James Y. Blake Sr., was one of the College of Pharmacy’s first graduates in 1927. Blake Jr. enjoyed the opportunity to revisit a college that has meant so much to his family.

The day’s festivities were capped off by the Florida Gators 45-7 victory over the Kentucky Wildcats in the opening game of Southeastern Conference competition for both teams.
